Im not positive but see if this makes sense to you. Light waves do not technically have colors. It is the red, blue, and green receptors in our eyes that are sensitive to specific wave lengths and interpret the colors in our brain, for instance someone that is colorblind to green may see green as blue, and no combination of different wavelengths of light will let him see green. As an abstract example you could imagine some new species that hears colors instead of sound, (some musically gifted people claim to see colors in their head when hearing different pitches and such), but this species would have special receptors that interpret the different sound vibrations into colors. So sound waves are different than light waves, they are compression of air, light waves are electromagnetic waves. The frequency of a sound wave is what makes all of the different pitches, amplitude really only affects how loud it is. Wavelength of sound is relatively all the same in air. So at the same amplitude or volume, the only difference in sound waves is really the frequency. Our ears hear noise with frequency from 20 hertz to 20 kHz. When sound waves combine they have a combined pressure which gives complex sounds instead of one single tone which can sound pleasant or unpleasant depending on how the waves combine. To answer your question any pitch is just one sound wave that can be represented as a sin wave, and any complex sound can be represented as a combination of these sin waves, but not necessarily a certain three.

I suggest chaning your mind on the Craigslist thing. You'll get a much wider audience that way...I use craiglist all the time for buying and selling. Be sure to put dimensions and photos in your ad, it will save you a huge amount of time. If everything is new and in good condition, start at 1/3 to 1/2 what you paid and go down from there if your items don't sell. Used mattresses are tougher, I'd start with 1/3 of what you paid at most. Good luck with your move!
